Hi everyone, I'm Adam, or AdamNW for my friends of the internet. As I'm advancing through my college career, I've decided that I want to be a video game journalist, and make a living writing for the industry. My budget is a little tight, but I've made it work for the last year or so.
And then Black Friday happened this year, and I found myself $400 farther in the hole than I could afford to. Thanks in no part to Steam's Autumn Sale.
The problem isn't that I spend the money; reviewing games is something I need to do for my career. The problem was that I realized I wasn't actually playing the games. According to the Steam Calculator (link provided), my account is worth over $1,300, which probably doesn't sound as bad compared to some of the people reading this. I decided to group all of my games by play time (i.e. completed, in progress, etc.). Not only was the "Not Started" group the largest, it valued at $658.50, which is simply disgusting to think about. Half of the value of my account is going to waste because I don't play these games. Well, starting today, I'll be fixing that.
In an effort to clean up my backlog, I will randomly but systematically play and complete every game on my account, and post a review and log here. I will NOT be buying any other games during this time period as a motivation for myself to complete this goal. However, I have already pre-purchased Tomb Raider on Steam, so if I don't complete my goal before the game is released, I will be taking a break in order to play (and of course, review) that game.
Some games I have already completed and will not complete a review for them unless requested. They as as follows:
The Binding of Isaac
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Dishonored
Half-Life 2 (Franchise)
Mirror's Edge
Plants vs Zombies
Portal and Portal 2
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
RIFT
Sequence
Thomas Was Alone
To the Moon
VVVVVV
Additionally, some of the games in my library I won't be reviewing period, as they are old enough/obsolete to the point that I can't accurately review them for their true quality. Nothing against these titles, but they haven't aged well:
Deus Ex (Franchise)
Morrowind
Indigo Prophecy
Knights of the Old Republic (1 and 2)
Space Channel 5: Part 2
The Longest Journey
Thief (Franchise, pending since I haven't started them yet)
Civilization IV (and expansions)
Finally, I won't be reviewing any of the multiplayer-exclusive games in my library (Team Fortress 2, etc), since these for the most part are free to play and if you really wanted to play them you could download them yourself.
I am also currently contemplating streaming all of these games as I play them, but I would like to gauge interest in this before I commit to it. Please let me know if you would like to watch me stream a specific game and I will see what I can do. I do not know when I will begin but I will take open suggestions as to what I play first. You can view my entire steam library on the link I provided above. Thank you for reading, and I hope you continue to!
